Vimeo was founded in November 2004 by two figures of American entrepreneurs named Jake Lodwick and Zach Klein. Jake Lodwick is a software technician, entrepreneur, and investor. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and attended Rochester Institute of Technology.

The joint founder, Zach Klein, is also an online entrepreneur. He graduated from Wake Forest University and has a number of other projects after Vimeo, including DIY website focusing on learning all new things.

But of the Vimeo pioneers had apparently not been so long taking control Vimeo. Jake left Vimeo in 2007 and then followed by Zack in the following year. Vimeo has been purchased by InterActiveCorp (IAC) in 2006.

The Vimeo brand itself was conceived by Jake as a combination of video and me. The word Vimeo is also an anagram inspired by a movie.

Vimeo Fanatic

Recently, the number of Vimeo users is pretty high. Vimeo attracted averagely 100 million unique visitors per month in 2013 and has 22 million registered users. In February 2013, Vimeo covers 0.11% of all Internet bandwidth.

Vimeo has fanatical communities including indie movie makers and their fans. The Vimeo community is called as Vimean. Some well-known world entertainment industries have been using Vimeo to share their videos.

One of the very predominate influencers in Vimeo is Britney Spears who launched her video clip, Radar, in 2009. The US presidential office, the White House, also posted high definition videos on Vimeo.

Vimeo initially also allowed the users to share their video games but stopped to further support in the mid of 2008. The reason might be the duration of video games that is usually too long.

Vimeo was the first social video sharing site that supports HD videos started from October 2007 at 1280 x 720 pixels. When you upload HD a video to Vimeo, it will be automatically converted to 720/30p VP6 flash video.
